Master of business administration (MBA) is a post-graduate regular program offered by various prestigious universities and autonomous colleges. MBA basically deals with the theory and applications of business and management. Students after pursuing MBA gain an in-depth knowledge about the insights of business management and gain practical exposure which equip the students with knowledge that can be applied to a variety of real-world business industries and situations. The duration of the course is two years which is divided into 4 semesters depending upon the curriculum of various institutions

ELIGIBILITY-

In order to be eligible for MBA programs you must have completed your graduation or you can even apply if you are in the final year of your graduation.

You need to appear for various management entrance exams like- CAT, XAT, MAT, CMAT, SNAP etc. which are conducted by various top autonomous colleges whereas the CAT exam is conducted by the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM).

After you have cleared the entrance exam you need to face many rounds of selection process which includes essay writing, followed by group discussions and personal interviews.

TYPES-

  1. Full-time MBA- The duration of this course is of two years, the course provides in-depth theoretical knowledge on business management and helps the students to decide the core subjects according to their area of interest when they enter the second year of the program, this type of MBA gives a generalized overview of the course regarding various management and entrepreneurial skills.
  2. Executive MBA- This program is basically meant for the working professionals so that they get more of edge on knowledge and skill on a particular area in which they are working, it helps them to boost their knowledge and skills which they can apply in their professional life. The students pursuing EMBA generally have much higher work experience.
  3. Part-time MBA- In this type of program the classes are held on weekends or in the evening, the students who are simultaneously working in a company take up this type of program because it provides them flexibility without any pressure of time.
  4. Distance learning- MBA provides a variety of types, one of them is the distance learning mode through which students can gain management and business knowledge at his/her own pace this course is flexible the lectures are delivered by pre-recorded video, live video conference or by offline or online computers.

 

The prestigious IIM and other top autonomous colleges offer a post-graduate diploma in management (PGDM) which is equivalent to an MBA degree in India. The government accredited body (AICTE) ruled that the PGDM course can only be offered by the autonomous colleges whereas the full-time post-graduate program can be offered by universities and affiliated colleges. The curriculum of the PGDM and the MBA degrees are almost equivalent just with a slight difference that the PGDM program is much industry oriented and focuses more on developing leadership and other management skills.
